New England Light Opera, a non-profit professional operetta and musical theater company now in its 8th season, returns to the Firehouse for the next event of its Great American Songbook series with Happy Days Are Here Again: A New 1930’s Revue. Happy Days Are Here Again features the songs that got us through the Great Depression, songs like Stormy Weather, Get Happy, Puttin’ on the Ritz, All the Things You Are and many more. They are powerfully framed with letters written by ordinary Americans to Presidents Hoover and Roosevelt. Also including press accounts and quotes from famous figures of the day, the show traces the eerie parallels between the Great Depression and the current Great Recession as we hear a hit parade of songs that form the core of the Great American Songbook.
NELO’s award winning cast includes Brian De Lorenzo, Vanessa Schukis, Jim Jordan, and Amber Swenson with jazz musicians Todd Marston (piano) Ben Powell (violin) and Mark McGettrick (percussion). The show has been created and stage directed by NELO Artistic Director Mark Morgan, who also created their popular Cole Porter and George Gershwin revues.
This event is co-presented by New England Light Opera and the Firehouse.
