Joppa Dance Company presents, "While We Float," its new spring show!
The company, split into four parts: Joppa Junior (grades 4-6), Joppa 2 (grades 7-8), Joppa T2 (grades 9-10), Joppa Teen (grades 10-12), will present new work in a multitude of styles ranging from balletic to funky hip-hop. The program will include many student choreographed pieces as well. Directors, Fontaine Dubus, Cheryl Fisher and Jen Steeves play with a variety of themes including curiosity, artistic masterpieces trapped in a museum, pirates, and saucy Latin attitude. Songs by Regina Spektor, The Dorpkick Murphys and Sam Sparrow are among the musical selections.
Joppa, established over twenty years ago, offers young local dancers an opportunity to learn several dance methods while developing their own creativity. Instead of competitions the company creates performance pieces throughout the year, preparing them for a career in dance if they so choose. The student pieces prove to be most impressive, and quite sophisticated.
This event is co-produced by the Firehouse Center for the Arts and Joppa Dance Company.
