Crabgrass Puppets
Jack and the Beanstalk

Sunday, Jan 22
3:00 pm

"Fee-fi-fo-fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman." We all remember those words uttered by the giant who resides way, way up on top the beanstalk that has grown outside Jack's window.

Jack's widowed mother has sent him to the market to sell their only cow, but along the way Jack meets a man who convinces Jack to trade the cow for some magic beans. Returning home with the beans, Jack is met by his mother who is angry with Jack for the poor decision he has made. She tosses the worthless beans out the window and they magically grow to epic proportions during the night.

The next day Jack scrambles up the beanstalk where he discovers an ogre who lives with his wife in the world high-above. What will happen to Jack? Will he escape the clutches of the mean old man? Will the ogre's wife help him flee to safety? Will Jack's mother ever forgive him?

The classic children's tale comes to life for your own child when the award-winning Crabgrass Puppets bring their world-class puppet characters to the Firehouse once again. Last year's performance of Haiku, Hiphop and Hotdogs filled the Arakelian Theater with happy patrons. Delighting audiences for three decades Crabgrass Puppets have toured nationally and are always a favorite with children and parents alike!

Performance is approx. 50-60 min.

About Crabgrass Puppets: Jamie Keithline and Bonny Hall formed Crabgrass Puppet Theatre in San Francisco in 1982 and have delighted audiences across the nation with their whimsical humor and puppetry. Now residents of Halifax, Vermont, they continue to tour throughout the U.S., performing in schools, museums and theaters. Venues have included the Detroit Institute of Art, the Smithsonian, Paper Mill Playhouse, Tribeca Performing Arts Center, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and dozens of regional and national puppetry festivals. In 2001 Jamie and Bonny were honored by their peers when their production Anansi, Spiderman of Africa! was awarded an UNIMA-USA Citation of Excellence, the highest honor in American puppetry. This honor was repeated in 2005 with the receipt of a second UNI award for The Bremen Town Musicians. In 2008, Bonny received a Commendation for Design in the Puppet Theatre by the Arlyn Award Foundation for The Day It Snowed Tortillas.
