Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Dan Fogelberg was a multi-platinum selling artist, with hits such as “Leader of the Band”, “Longer”, “Same Old Lang Syne” and a large and diverse catalog of over 20 albums. He passed away in 2007 after a three year battle with prostate cancer. Dan remains a huge influence and musical hero of Don Campbell’s so much so that over a two year period Don recorded 23 of his favorite Fogelberg songs from 11 different albums, releasing a double CD, “Kites To Fly: Celebrating The Music Of Dan Fogelberg” in November, 2012. Don is making a donation from the sales of this CD to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, the Fogelberg Foundation of Peoria and the World Wildlife Fund.
Don and his band have opened for a long list of folk, country and rock music greats including America, Jonathan Edwards, Shawn Colvin, Carrie Underwood, Willie Nelson, and Randy Travis, as well as performing locally at Maudslay Arts Center. Please welcome them back to Newburyport when they perform on the Firehouse Center for the Arts stage (Market Square) in Newburyport on Saturday, March 23 at 8pm. Tickets are $22 for Members and $20 for Non-Members; and may be purchased in person at the Box Office (Wed-Sun, 12N-5P), by calling 978-462-7336 or online at www.firehouse.org.
Don was the National Winner of the Texaco/True Value Country Showdown at the Grand Ole Opry, Nashville TN; he was named Maine’s Best Singer-Songwriter in the Maine Sunday Telegram’s Annual Readers Poll for six consecutive years and named Male Artist of the Year at the Just Plain Folks Music Awards. His music is inspired by sources as diverse as the Celtic and Canadian Maritime music of his family to Dan Fogelberg, Vince Gill, the Beatles and novelist, Stephen King. Writing in genres including adult contemporary, country, Celtic, Christmas, bluegrass, and rock, Don has also thrived as an indie musician for over 11 years, with his own record label and publishing company, Playbutton Records and Donski Music Publishing.
Don averages between 150-200 performances per year primarily with the New England-based Don Campbell Band and his smaller ensemble, the nationally touring Restless Campbells. Don will release a new original adult contemporary project in early summer 2013.
Accompanying Don will be Tom Yoder on violin; Kris Rodgers on piano and Tonya Shevenell on bass.
