DD Martin

Sat, October 8, at 8pm

Jazz-hot. Smoldering ice. These are a few of the superlatives ascribed to DD Martin when she lights up a stage with her smile and wows her audience with her sultry voice and warm personality. She has so much fun up on a stage that as one watches her it is almost impossible not to smile too.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri to a popular Gospel/Blues singer, DD Martin took her cues from her mother Stella Mae who traveled throughout the South and Europe performing. The love of music was instilled in DD at an early age and she fostered her own dream of someday taking to the stage. At age 13 that dream came true when she starred in a musical at the McCoran Playhouse in Los Angeles, Ca with her teenage singing group The Time Climax and from that moment on she was hooked -- and destined to please an audience!

As she developed her talents she performed in nightclubs with her band Second Helping before breaking into television work. Her credits include recording the voiceover theme for the TV pilot show Candid Camera, recording vocals for an episode of the television show Fame, and she also performed as a featured artist on the televised "Valentino Awards." In addition, Ms. Martin received rave reviews when she toured internationally with the Broadway show Jerry's Girls singing the second lead.

DD Martin has toured and performed with some of the legends in the music world including Bill Medley of The Righteous Brothers, Little Anthony of The Imperials, Joe Sample of The Crusaders, BJ Thomas, Sonny Turner, and Herb Reed of the Platters.

You can hear her performing her versatile one-woman show at the Firehouse, as she pays tribute to the many musical greats that have influenced her in the voice that critics call a blend of Tina Turner and Gladys Knight with a smidgen of Patti Labelle and Tina Braxton. As she easily moves from decade to decade, she brings to life memorable hits from the 50s, 60s 70s and 80s in all our favorite genres: rock and roll, soul and blues. Experience her incredible talent and range as she pays a musical tribute to Sarah Vaughn, Dinah Washington Billie Holiday and many more of the greats, while she steps straight from the stage and into your heart.

"…Keeps the audience in the palm of her hand! She sings from her soul!"
Bill Medley, of The Righteous Brothers

"…DD shines.."
                                BJ Thomas

"…She sings as sweet as a hummingbird, she takes the stage and makes it her own!"
                                Little Anthony and The Imperials
