A one-week vacation in Martha's Vineyard or a sunset cruise here in Newburyport? A painting by Alan Bull or a photograph by Linda Dahlberg? Yoga sessions, a Motown dance party or acting lessons? There is something for everyone's taste and everyone's budget at the Kentucky Derby Party auction this year at the Firehouse Center, Market Square, Newburyport on Saturday, May 1 from 4pm-8pm. Tickets for the event are on sale now (All tickets $65) and may be purchased at the Box Office, by calling 978/462-7336 or by going online at www.firehouse.org.
This annual event represents the largest fundraising effort each year for the Firehouse. It is not only a wonderful way to welcome spring, but a fun way to support the arts in your community while you and your friends strut your stuff in your Derby hats and watch “the most-exciting two-minutes in sports” on the big screen.
A new addition to this year’s Sixth Annual Kentucky Derby Party, thanks to the sponsorship of the Susanne Marcus Collins Foundation, Inc; is the Red Carpet event. Arriving guests are handed a traditional mint julep and they are greeted on the red carpet by photographer Greg Nikas as he captures all their Derby finery in a keepsake photo. Also included in the donation amount are delicious hors d’oeuvres, big-screen simulcast of the Kentucky Derby, great prizes for the most fashionable & bizarre hats, live-betting and cash bar, live auction, and eligibility for $750 cash drawing at the end of the evening.
Firehouse Development Director Beth Falconer says “As a newcomer to the Newburyport community and the Firehouse staff, I am excited about attending my first Derby Day Party—I hope there are others who will also choose this year as their first to support the Firehouse in this way. I am told it is sure to be a fun and memorable day for all!” Will she be wearing a Derby hat? “Still undecided about that, but I understand the hat prizes are coveted.”
Other Signature Sponsors who are generously supporting the arts in our community are Institution for Savings, Not Your Average Joe’s, Mission Oak Grill, Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bank and True Value Hardware. Please remember them and know that by patronizing these very generous supporters, you are helping to keep the arts alive in your town!
