Always a favorite with local audiences, Exit Dance Theatre returns to the Firehouse stage with the dancers you have come to know and admire in new and inspired works. This year the entire company will dance to live accompaniment by the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Choir, lead by Don Argyrople, in new works choreographed by Fontaine Dubus, the Director of Exit Dance. The captivating hymns which will be performed by the choir are rooted in Russian and Byzantine styles, evocative of ancient times.
Also included in the live accompaniment of the Sound Moves lineup is Kristen Miller, a local musician who is nationally known for her haunting and distinguished cello pieces. Kristen will be providing the musical backdrop with three original pieces for a trio choreographed and danced by Susan Atwood, Fontaine Dubus and Sarah George. For years Dubus has been an avid fan of Miller's music, which is extremely rhythmic and richly melodic, and she is thrilled to collaborate with Miller this year.
Erin Foley's piece, ReRote returns to the stage with an extended version that continues the exploration of mortality and timelessness. Foley's piece was inspired by Milan Kundera's novel, "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" and its references to human existence as perceived through the philosophy of Nietzsche.
Exit co-founders Fontaine Dubus and Stephen Haley also team up together for the first time in a duet, "Bloodstone", which examines the relationships of obligation, llove and abandonment.
Nicole Duquette adds her comic touch with a piece centered on a donut and the sketchy characters who covet it.
Performers and choreographers in Sound Moves include: Susan Atwood, Darlene Doyle, Fontaine Dubus, Nicole Duquette, Erin Foley, Sarah George, Wendy Hamel, Stephen Haley, Jennifer Steeves, Edward Speck, Tricia Walsh. The show also features a film by Gordon Przybyla.
