Letter to the Editor

PRESS RELEASE:
May 3, 2010

Sincere thanks to the entire community

To the editor:

On behalf of the Firehouse Center for the Arts, we would like to extend a sincere thank you for the show of support we received during our Sixth Annual Kentucky Derby fund-raiser. The event was great fun, with fabulous hats, delicious food, and a wonderful collection of auction items that added to the gala atmosphere of the day.  We raised significant funds which will go towards supporting our mission to advance the arts and humanities in the Greater Newburyport region. Without your help it would not be possible to continue to bring a broad range of cultural, educational and artistic programs to our community, programs that add immeasurably to the quality of life that helps to make our community such an especially vibrant one.

A special thanks goes out to all of our generous sponsors without whom our programming would not be possible:  Susanne Marcus Collins Foundation, Inc., Institution for Savings, The Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bank, Not Your Average Joe’s, Mission Oak Grill, SPS New England, Inc., Kelly’s True Value Rental, Maker’s Mark, Provident Savings Bank, Castagna Construction, Matt and Shauna Pieniazek;  Kathleen, Ra and Aom Isbell, Law Office  of Stephen A. Rosenbaum, Lombardi Oil Company, Seaport Signworks , Inn Street Barber Shop,  ILV and Associates, North East Dermatology, Oregano’s, Richard Bazirgan, Wanda and Terry Blanchard.

In addition we are deeply indebted to all of our generous donors:  The Actor’s Studio of Newburyport,

Jacalyn Bennett,  Boston Red Sox Foundation, Larry Buck,  Alan Bull, Captain Ed, Kathryn Carnovale, Conner-Summer Gallery, Donna Ellison, Essex Street Inn, Sandy Farrier, gDesign,  Julie Ganong & Alan Mons,  Glenn Livermore Photography,  Green Jean's, Diane & Ed Gronbeck of the Brass Lyon, Leary’s Wine and Spirits, Loretta Restaurant, Lowell's Boat Shop,  Mission Oak Grill, Newburyport Chamber of Commerce,  New England Patriots Charitable Foundation,  Ninth Wave, Dawn Norris, Plum Island Grille, The Racquet Club of Newburyport,  Lisa Riordan, Roots to Wings, Sacred Tree Massage & Healing, John Sheedy, Dennis & Cindy Staats, Joseph P. Sullivan, Visiting Geeks,  Yankee Homecoming, and York Harbor Inn.

And for making the evening more fun and more comfortable for all the Derby guests we recognize the continued devotion of our amazing volunteers.  Thanks also to Mark Welch for providing his services as ‘auctioneer extraordinaire,’ Beth Duff and Port Media for producing our Public Service Announcements, WNBP and Greg Nikas Photography for making the Red Carpet event so fun, Geoffrey Mullis for his expert wagering advice, and of course to all of our guests who added so much to the festivities of the day.

Last, but certainly not least, many thanks to the Newburyport Daily News, the Newburyport Current and Wicked Local Newburyport for their continued support and their tireless efforts to help “get the word out;” about not only the Annual Kentucky Derby Party, but each of our programs and events.

Sincerely,
Ray Tiezzi
