Beginning November 6 and running through November 19, the Firehouse Center for the Arts is partnering with OpArt program out of the Newburyport Art Association for a special pop-up gallery in the Firehouse’s Theater Lobby.
OpArt is a visual arts program where artists with developmental disabilities create, exhibit, and sell art. The program provides artists with instruction in different artistic mediums such as printing, painting with acrylics or watercolors, drawing, sculptures, ceramics, and so much more.
“The OpArt program provides our artists with a safe space in which to express themselves through art while supported by committed NAA volunteers who offer encouragement and individualized direction. OpArt also provides the opportunity for our artists to share their work with viewers through exhibition at the NAA and various local venues.” Explains OpArt Coordinator, Jenna Signore. She continues, “Being part of this program is my great honor. I am continually inspired by our artists' enthusiasm, spirit, and innovation in the studio. To witness the calm that the artmaking process brings for many and the joy associated with sharing art with others is extremely powerful.”
Each piece of artwork will have a thematic connection with the Firehouse Produced Mainstage show The Glass Menagerie which will be running on the Institution of Savings Mainstage at the Arakelian Theater for the duration of the pop-up show.
