Featuring the incredible young talent of Thomasina Glenn and Josef Nocera!
Sixteen year old acoustic singer-songwriter Thomasina Glenn is bringing a fresh sound to country and pop music, with a new album of classic covers and also features her original debut. Her sweetly confident voice is influenced by queens of country music like Patsy Cline, Emmylou Harris, and Dolly Parton; as well as some of today's rising alt-country and folks singers like Brandi Carlile and Kacey Musgraves. Her style is tender, soulful, and sophisticated beyond her years in intimate moments; youthful and playful when the mood is light. Check her out on Facebook and click here to preview some tracks on her new CD!
Josef Nocera is 25 year old singer-songwriter and Newburyport local! This is his 13th year performing all around New England and writing music. His influences are Buddy Holly, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and AC/DC. Josef's first album, "Desire in the Fall" debuts at this Firehouse concert and is a compilation of many songs he's written over the past 13 years. Josef began singing in the teen choir at the Unitarian Church on Pleasant Street, then went on to sing in the Varsity Choir at Newburyport High School. He spent many summers busking (street performing) in Newburyport and in Edgartown, Martha's Vineyard. Josef has been on Newburyport's WNBP and Evolvement Radio programs and has frequently performed at Newburyport's own Caffe Di Siena, David's Tavern, Glenn's, 17 State Street (formerly Fowle's), Oregano's, Loretta's, at the Tannery's Sunday Farmer's Market, and The Noshery in Amesbury to name a few. Josef also sings at dozens of senior living communities throughout Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Along with his original work, he is known for his spot-on impressions of Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, and Frank Sinatra.
About Rising Stars Music Series: Rising Stars series of concerts throughout 2016-17 will celebrate the Firehouse’s 25th anniversary by spotlighting outstanding young musical and vocal talent in the Greater Newburyport area. From solos to combos, classical to jazz, Broadway to folk, we’re inviting young artists to take their talent out of their basements, bedrooms and garages and onto our stage! Each evening will have a theme and open with a soloist or duo and climax with a band, group or orchestra. Throughout our first 25 years, the Firehouse has nurtured young talent that has gone on to receive wide recognition. It is part of our mission to foster young performers— our Glee Club program is a stellar example. Come and see the musical stars of the future on our stage while they are still affordable! The Firehouse reached out to local music educators to identify the best of the best of musical talent from schools, studios and private instructors. Auditions were held in some cases, to ensure the young performer(s) are ready to carry a full set.
