The 2018 Earth Port Film Festival features eight short films, ranging from 3 to 17 minutes, that tell engaging and inspiring stories of people in communities around the world taking action to address the environmental challenges facing the Earth today. This year’s selections include several genres — animation, documentary and parody — from Hawaii, Alaska, Norway and mainland US, created by youth and adult filmmakers. The lineup includes stories of water protection, the perils of convenience, the importance of urban farming, zero waste activists and cultivating nature connection.

This year’s festival will also highlight the work of our local watershed protectors, the Merrimack River Watershed Council. Several selections from the 2-minute video competition “The Merrimack River — Our Lifeline” will be shown.

About Earth Port Film Festival:
Inspired by a desire to highlight and raise awareness of both pressing environmental issues and the important role of community media, Newburyport Community Media Hub (formerly PortMedia) and Transition Newburyport founded the festival in 2012. The film festival aims to demonstrate the power of film to communicate about important issues. Proceeds from the Earth Port Film Festival are used to support the training and skill development of Newburyport youth and adults in the art of communicating via film and television.

Produced by Newburyport Community Media Hub and Transition Newburyport.
Sponsored by Merrohawke Nature School.
