Presented by Greater Newburyport Children's Chorus and Firehouse Center for the Arts, May 20 (*grades 8-12) & 21 (*grades 2-7)
The Greater Newburyport Children's Chorus and the Firehouse Center for the Arts are proud to present the Inaugural 'Get Vocal', a singing competition for youth in grades 2-12! The competition will feature soloists that have previously auditioned and been chosen as finalists. On Monday May 20th, the finalists in grades 8 - 12 will be competing against each other, and on Tuesday, May 21st, finalists in grades 2-7 will be competing against each other. Both groups will be competing for Cash prizes for their respective age group categories ($300/$200/$100) for 1st/2nd/3rd places. The competition will be judged by local music industry professionals in a live judging format on stage with the performers, similar to popular television vocal talent shows. The judges will deliberate at the end of the night to declare the final winners.
Interspersed with the vocal competition, each night the Greater Newburyport Children's Chorus' (GNCC - singers in grades 4-8) will be performing their Spring Sing concert, with songs from various genres, including "Revolting Children" from Matilda, "Seize the Day" from Newsies and "Sir Duke" by Stevie Wonder. Gina McKeown, Music Director of GNCC and Allison Balentine, Assistant Director of GNCC will lead the ensemble in their performance and YuChing Fass will accompany the chorus. The GNCC Juniors ensemble (singers in grades 2-3) will also be performing their Spring repetoire including "Zip a Dee Doo Dah" and "Be the Hero" from Big Fish. The Juniors are directed by Christina Bauer and accompanied by Gina McKeown and Olivia Hansen, student accompanist.
